Info

Occupying a full city block, the project involves the renovation of three venues and the addition of five others to become an anchor institution in downtown Calgary. Linking the different venues together will be a shared Sky Lobby, a multi-purpose space crowned by an undulating free form roof.

The Sky Lobby will be the central focal point of the complex and is designed not only as a circulation space but also as a multipurpose space animated with retail kiosks, small bars and cafes to provide opportunities for staging all sorts of street / plaza type activities such as venues for “street” performances by up and coming “artists”, artist kiosks for display and sale of works by artists etc. The grand stairs connecting the various levels of the lobby are designed with opportunities for incorporation of stepped seating for amphitheatre type gathering spaces for pre-show and other performances. At show intermissions as well as before and after shows, it serves as a gathering space for patrons to all venues to inter-mix and meet up with each other.
