Banff Centre Campus Redevelopment Banff, Alberta

Info

In a truly iconic Canadian setting, the Banff Centre is a nationally and internationally renowned centre of excellence in creativity and the arts. Perched above the townsite, the Banff Centre is a place of arts incubation, interaction, collaboration and dissemination that is often overlooked by the millions of Parks visitors. In 2014, BTA was involved in a design competition that would expand the Centre into the core of the town centre. In partnership with Parks Canada, the site adjoins the original home of the Banff Centre dating back to the 1930’s. Our design seeks an iconic architecture that is sensitive to the history of the institution and respectful of the breathtaking context surrounding the town. Visitors are led through a series of shared art spaces and performance venues as they progress upwards through the building. The experience culminates at the roof with an exterior public amphitheatre whose outermost eaves hide the surrounding town, effectively creating a mountain meadow and expansive 360 degree views of the Canadian Rockies within the heart of downtown Banff.
